Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC agreed to a $7.85 million class action settlement to resolve federal antitrust allegations related to pricing on the PlayStation Store. According to the lawsuit, Sony monopolized the market for digital PlayStation games, causing consumers to pay artificially inflated prices for digital titles. The case is known as Caccuri, et al. v. Sony Interactive Entertainment LLC, Case No. 21-cv-03361-AMO, filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California.
The plaintiffs alleged that Sony's control over the PlayStation digital game marketplace eliminated competitive pricing pressure, resulting in higher costs for consumers purchasing digital games compared to what they would have paid in a competitive market. Sony has not admitted any wrongdoing in connection with the settlement.
The $7.85 million settlement fund will be distributed to eligible class members based on a court-approved plan of allocation tied to their qualifying purchases. A full list of eligible games is available on the official settlement website at PSNDigitalGamesSettlement.com.
You may be eligible for a payment from this settlement if you meet all of the following criteria:
Eligible class members are U.S.-based consumers who purchased qualifying titles through the PlayStation digital storefront during the covered period.
The individual payment amount is currently listed as TBD and will depend on the number of valid class members and the volume of eligible purchases submitted. Distributions will be calculated according to a court-approved plan of allocation, meaning those with more qualifying purchases during the covered period may receive proportionally higher payments.
Importantly, no claim form is required for most class members — if you have an active PlayStation Network account and made qualifying purchases, you may automatically receive a settlement payment without taking any action. However, if you have a deactivated PlayStation Network account, you must submit your qualifying purchase information along with a current mailing address by August 27, 2026, in order to receive your share of the settlement.
